In the match, Irfan completed this hat-trick by dismissing Pakistani batsmen Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yusuf.

With this, he became the only bowler in the world to take a hat-trick in the first over of Test cricket history. Also, Irfan performed brilliantly in the final of the T20 World Cup 2007, for which he was given the Player of the Match award. In the final, Irfan bowled brilliantly and took 3 big wickets while giving only 16 runs in 4 overs.
