The ‘Impact Player’ rule in IPL has started from 2023. This rule was brought to make cricket more exciting but now cricketers seem unhappy about it.

What is Impact Player Rule?

Before implementing the Impact Player Rule in IPL 2023, BCCI implemented it in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2023, where good results were achieved, after which it was also introduced in the T20 league.

At any time during the game, one of them – called an impact player – can replace any member of the playing-11. The Impact Player rule makes an IPL match a 12-player competition for each team, while reducing the need for an all-rounder.’

David Miller is also unhappy with this rule

David Miller, the great batsman of South Africa and Gujarat Titans, has also expressed his displeasure regarding this rule. He said on this-

“I’m not a big fan of the Impact Player rule. IPL has been a trial and there is a lot of hype about it. The game of cricket has always been of 11 players. As Rohit said, this rule has no meaning in international cricket so what is the point of keeping it.

“This rule means that you have 6 bowlers, 8 batsmen and no all-rounder. If they want to keep it, I don’t know what decision they will take, but it is difficult for some all-rounders to bowl to.”

What did Rohit Sharma say about the Impact Player rule?

“I’m not a big fan of the impact rule. This will hold back the all-rounders, ultimately cricket is played by 11 players and not 12 players. You’re taking a lot out of the game to make it entertaining for the people around. If you look at it from the cricketing aspect, I think people like Shivam Dubey and Washington Sundar are not getting a chance to bowl, which is not a good thing for us.”
