Both the Border Gavaskar Trophy and the Ashes are big tours on the Australian cricket calendar and are very similar from a commercial perspective: Nick Hockley
Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley has said that the commercial value of the Ashes and Border Gavaskar Trophy series has become equal. Despite the series being held in November, the CA chief said that ticket sales are already increasing rapidly.
Notably, Australia has a huge history associated with the Ashes. Meanwhile, the Test series between India and Australia has become one of the most exciting series in the last few years. The series later this year will be even bigger as India has won the last two series in Australia.
Nick Hockley, the board’s chief executive, has resigned from his post. He will step down after the end of the current 2024-2025 cricket season. Meanwhile, speaking to Hindustan Times, Hockley said:
“Both the Border Gavaskar Trophy and the Ashes are big tours on the Australian cricket calendar and are very similar from a commercial perspective, with both mega series drawing huge fan turnouts and huge TV viewership. Ticket sales from India are already six times higher than the previous non-COVID series.”
5 match Border Gavaskar Trophy will be played between India and Australia
Both teams are set to play a five-Test series for the first time since 1991-92. On this, the CA chief said that this will be an interesting series, because every pitch and ground behaves differently. He further said:
“Each of Australia’s iconic cricket grounds has its own unique pitch characteristics and conditions which make this series so interesting, including the introduction of day-night Tests in recent years.”
The series will start in Perth on November 22. The remaining Tests will be played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. India won the last two series played in Australia 2-1. Rohit Sharma and Co. also won the last series on their home ground. Adelaide will host the only day/night Test match of the series in December
