Former Pakistan cricketer Moin Khan has criticized the decision to remove Shaheen Shah Afridi from the white ball captaincy, saying that it was unfair. He has again advocated for Afridi to be made the captain again. He has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He also indirectly targeted Babar Azam, who is currently the captain of Pakistan’s ODI and T20 team.
Let us tell you that after the ODI World Cup last year, Babar resigned from the captaincy of all three formats. After that Shaheen was made the captain of T20 and Shan Masood was made the captain of Test format. Shaheen had to lose the captaincy after just one series. Under his captaincy, Pakistan lost 1-4 in the five-match T20 series on the New Zealand tour. After taking over the captaincy from Shaheen, the PCB appointed Babar as the captain of the white ball team.
Moeen Khan gave a big statement on Shaheen Afridi being stripped of captaincy
According to media reports, former Test captain Moeen said, “Shaheen Afridi has the ability to lead the team and the players like him very much. He is the best choice for captaincy in T20. I don’t think anyone else is more suitable than him to take up the responsibility of captain in white ball cricket. It was unfair to remove him from captaincy.”
Moeen, who played 69 Tests and 219 ODIs in his career, said that Pakistan should maintain faith in a captain for a long time. He said, “If there are constant changes, the players will not listen to their captain. If the cricket board gives full support to the captain and assures him of long-term responsibility, the team’s performance will improve.”
Babar’s reappointment as Pakistan captain did not go well for the team. Pakistan could not progress beyond the group stage in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan was heavily criticized after the defeat against the USA. After this Moeen said, “Azam was not given a chance to wicketkeep after one match and he was dropped after getting out on the very first ball (against the USA).
Any player can get out on the first ball, but the tradition of developing players that used to exist here is no longer there. Be it the captain or the management, if they keep changing players so frequently then how can we prepare good players?
