Team India’s middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who started his Test career in a good way, is not even being considered in the Test format at the moment. Basit Ali made a sharp comment on Shreyas Iyer
Basit said on his YouTube channel, “As a cricketer, it is sad to see that despite playing in the top order, Shreyas Iyer’s bat did not work. He came at number three. Whether he gets out in the slip or caught behind is not an issue. But if you are getting out in front, it means that your concentration is not in cricket, especially in the red ball format. I am saying this sentence with apologies. He scored two centuries in the ODI World Cup. He won the IPL 2024 trophy as captain. He should score centuries and double centuries in the Duleep Trophy.”
He further said, “Iyer is lucky that Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were not selected in any of the four teams of Duleep Trophy. I feel that Iyer has no hunger left for red ball cricket. I feel that he is only hungry for boundaries. This should not happen. He should give priority to cricket. If Iyer thinks that by scoring two centuries in the World Cup, he has become a player like Virat Kohli, then this is not the case at all. Virat Kohli’s level is different.”
The former cricketer further said, “I want to say one thing to those who like Iyer. I am saying this with apologies to Indians that if Basit Ali was an Indian cricketer, Iyer would not have got a place in any of the four teams of Duleep Trophy. I say what is in my heart. If you are bad people then sorry. Iyer should respect cricket. He is not respecting cricket.”
