Speaking on a YouTube channel, Ashwin said that the people of Chennai love bowlers and he is happy that Bumrah is treated like a god in the city.
Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has called fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah the most valuable cricketer of Team India. Ashwin recently talked about Bumrah’s presence at an event in Chennai and said that he was happy with the welcome he received.
Bumrah, who made his debut for India in 2016, has become one of the most aggressive bowlers across formats. The Ahmedabad-born pacer has featured in 195 international matches and has taken 397 wickets across formats.
What is Ashwin’s view on Jasprit Bumrah?
Speaking to Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said that the people of Chennai love bowlers and he is happy that Bumrah is treated like a god in the city.
He said, “We Chennai people appreciate bowlers a lot. He came here as the chief guest in an event 4-5 days ago. We gave him a Rajini (South cinema superstar Rajinikanth) like welcome. We (Chennai people) treat bowlers very well. They should be treated like champions. I don’t want to take names, but Jasprit Bumrah is the most valuable Indian cricketer right now.”
Bumrah played a key role in winning this year’s T20 World Cup trophy and ending India’s ICC trophy drought. He won the Player of the Tournament award.
“This will never change” – Ravichandran Ashwin calls India a batsman-dominated country
Ashwin further said that the fast bowler deserves even more praise. This experienced player, who has played 100 Tests, said in his statement-
“India has always been a batsman-dominated country and that’s never going to change. But I’m so happy that we’re celebrating Jasprit Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation bowler. We should celebrate him even more.”
