Jemima was the first Indian female cricketer to receive the honorary Khar Gymkhana membership in 2023.
Indian women’s cricket team’s star cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has earned a lot of name on the basis of her brilliant game. The result of his excellent performance was that Mumbai’s prestigious Khar Gymkhana awarded him honorary membership for three years in 2023. But now an incident has happened, due to which his membership has been cancelled.
Actually, Jemima’s father Ivan Rodriguez has been accused of running unauthorized religious activities in the club premises. According to the report, club members have alleged that Ivan Rodriguez had organized the program for religious conversion. After this, in the annual general body meeting of the club on 20 October, it was decided to cancel Jemima’s membership.
Khar Gymkhana president Vivek Devnani said, “The honorary three-year membership granted to Jemimah Rodrigues was canceled as per a resolution passed by the members attending the general meeting,” the report said.
This is happening right under our noses – Shiv Malhotra, member of the management committee of Khar Gymkhana
It is noteworthy that Jemima was the first Indian female cricketer to get the honorary Khar Gymkhana membership in 2023. His father Ivan is a cricket coach and is accused of using the club’s Presidential Hall to organize 35 events in the last one and a half years. However, the club has a strict policy of not involving religious matters inside the premises and this has also been confirmed by Shiv Malhotra, member of the managing committee of Khar Gymkhana.
Shiv Malhotra said that, we have come to know that Jemima’s father was associated with an organization named Brother Manuel Ministries. He booked the Presidential Hall for about one and a half years and organized 35 events. And we all know what was happening there.
Malhotra further said that, we hear about conversions all over the country, but here it was happening right under our noses. There was dancing, singing, expensive musical equipment and big screens. As per Rule 4A of the Constitution of Khar Gymkhana, the Gymkhana does not permit any religious activity.
