Joe Root now has 2557 runs in his name against India
During the first Test match between India and England (IND vs ENG) being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, Joe Root has achieved a rare feat on the third day of the game. 33-year-old Root has become the batsman with the highest run scorer in Test cricket against India, leaving behind former Australian captain Ricky Ponting.

The names of Alastair Cook (2431 runs), Clive Lloyd (2344 runs), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (2171 runs) and Michael Clarke (2049 runs) are included in this list of batsmen who have scored the most runs against India in Tests.

However, Joe Root could not play a big innings and became the victim of Jasprit Bumrah on the personal score of 2 runs. Root was LBW on the inbound ball and the umpire declared him out. After this the batsman used DRS (Decision Review System), but the ball touched the bail on the leg stump, due to which he had to return to the pavilion.
The former English captain had failed to score big even in the first innings and scored only 29 runs, which could be a matter of concern for the two teams. Nonetheless, his record against Team India in India is impressive. The English batsman has so far scored 983 runs in 11 Test matches played in India at an average of 46.80 with the help of two centuries and five half-centuries.
England showed struggle on the third day
Talking about the match, England has scored 316 runs after losing 6 wickets in the second innings by the end of the third day’s play on the basis of Ollie Pope’s brilliant century. Pope is present at the crease after scoring 148 runs in 208 balls with the help of 17 fours. Earlier, India’s first innings ended at 436 runs.
