KKR can win IPL: Kolkata Qualified for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2024 by defeating Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, May 11. KKR won against Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in a 16-over match due to rain interruption at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
This team, which was eliminated in the initial round two years ago, made a great comeback this season under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir. Batting first in this match played against Mumbai Indians, Kolkata team had set a target of 158 runs losing 7 wickets. In response to which Mumbai Indians could score only 139 runs. With this victory, Kolkata Knight Riders team is sitting at number 1 with 18 points with 9 wins out of 12 matches.
KKR can win IPL Trophy: Will KKR win this year’s IPL?
Speaking post-match, Mumbai’s Piyush Chawla has credited both KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine for their incredible spells. Along with this he said that the team was easily moving towards the target but in the 7th over the whole game changed and Mumbai went off the track of victory. Mumbai were progressing rapidly on the strength of Ishan Kishan’s start to the innings, however, three wickets fell between the 7th and 11th overs due to which the match went out of their hands.
Chawla also feels that KKR has the potential to win IPL 2024 due to the team’s excellent form in the tournament. Throughout the season, the batsmen found it difficult to deal with the spin of Sunil Narine and now Varun Chakravarthy is also back in form towards the end of the tournament. They said-
“The way KKR spinners are bowling and the way they are batting, they can win the tournament. But in the playoffs, it matters how you perform on that particular day. You need just four overs to change the game in IPL. They have momentum, all their players are performing well. I think KKR will win IPL.”
