Former player Aakash Chopra believes that Delhi Capitals (DC) should appoint Axar Patel as their captain before KL Rahul for IPL 2025. He said that the spin-bowling all-rounder has been a great performer for the franchise and will lead the team well.
Delhi Capitals had released their last season’s captain Rishabh Pant before the auction, while retaining Akshar for ₹16.50 crore. They failed to re-acquire Pant but bought Rahul for ₹14 crore.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “Who will be the captain? Their situation is like KKR. Could be Akshar Patel. I have no objection to him becoming the captain. If you give me a choice, I would say make Akshar the captain. He is very underrated, very mature, performs brilliantly and will run the team very well. He is a player who will be respected.”
Delhi Capitals have included KL Rahul in their camp by paying Rs 14 crore, this is also being said to be the steeliest deal of this auction. On one hand, the bid for Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer has crossed Rs 26 crores, on the other hand, if a team gets a player like KL Rahul for Rs 14 crores, then it would not be wrong to call it the steeliest deal.
Chopra further said, “KL Rahul can be another option. The third option could be Faf du Plessis, if they so choose, but they cannot start Faf from the start as they have used the Right to Match (RTM) card for Jake Fraser-McGurk. So I am thinking between Akshar and Rahul, but the management has not given any clarity yet. My vote is in favor of Akshar because his performance on this field has been exceptional.”
