With this medal, Bhaker’s name has been recorded in the history of Indian Olympics. She has become the first athlete from the country to win two medals in the same Olympic edition in 124 years. India has won two Olympic medals in shooting for the first time since the London Olympics-2012.
Manu and Sarabjot had made it to the bronze medal match by scoring 580 in the qualification round. However, India did not get a good start in this match. In the first round, the Korean team scored 20.5 and India scored 18.8. But after this, both Manu and Sarabjot shot strongly. In the next round, India scored 21.2 and Korea scored 19.9.
In the third round, India again won and scored 20.8 while Korea could score only 19.8. The Korean team asked for a time out before the sixth series but it was of no use. Manu and Sarabjot again did not give any chance to the Korean team and created history by winning the bronze.
After winning the medal, Manu Bhaker was quoted by Jio Cinema as saying, “I am really feeling proud. I am very grateful that I was able to do this. Thanks for all the blessings. We cannot control (everything). We only want to control what is in our hands. Our plan was to keep fighting till the last shot.”
The success of these two has created a buzz in the Indian cricket fraternity and they congratulated them on winning bronze medals at the Paris Olympics. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir praised both the athletes and posted this in their praise.
