Ahead of the IND vs SL series, Sri Lanka’s star pacer Mathisha Pathirana has expressed confidence in his team’s ability and highlighted the importance of the upcoming assignment.
Team India is all set to take on Sri Lanka in a six-match white-ball series, which includes three T20Is and one ODI. India will be led by Suryakumar Yadav in the shortest format, while Rohit Sharma will lead the side in the ODIs.
This will be the first series under the new head coach Gautam Gambhir. Currently, Team India has reached Sri Lanka and the Indian players had their first practice session under Gambhir in Pallekele on Tuesday, July 24. With Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from T20s, the Men in Blue will field a young lineup in the shortest format.
What did Matheesha Pathirana say before the IND vs SL T20 series-
Ahead of the series, Sri Lanka’s star pacer Mathisha Pathirana has expressed confidence in his team’s ability and highlighted the importance of the upcoming assignment. The team had a poor outing in the T20 World Cup held in West Indies and USA last month and failed to make it to the Super 8s.
Pathirana said before the series-
“I think it will be a good challenge. India are coming in with a new coach and some new players; their combination will be a little different. But it will be a good challenge for us because they are the world champions.”
“We have a very good team and there is a lot of talent and potential in the team. Unfortunately, we did not perform well in the T20 World Cup. But if we can win this series, it will be a confidence booster for the next three years.”
I got opportunities and was selected for the main Sri Lanka team: Mathisha Pathirana
It is worth noting that Pathirana is just 21 years old, but even at such a young age he has earned a lot of name for himself. He has credited CSK for being able to do this.
“After my Under-19, I was not in any team in Sri Lanka. But since my debut for CSK, I got opportunities and I was selected for the main Sri Lankan team. Playing for CSK is a gift from God for me. When I played for CSK, a lot of people started knowing me. Sharing the dressing room with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) is very special for youngsters like me, especially for players coming from Sri Lanka.”
