Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy title under Omkar Salvi. Omkar Salvi may not be that well-known coach, but he has a lot of achievements at the domestic level. Salvi joined as the head coach of Mumbai ahead of the 2023-24 season and as soon as he arrived, he led Mumbai to its 42nd Ranji Trophy win. This was Mumbai’s first Ranji title after 8 years and the MCA subsequently decided to retain Salvi for another season. Not only this, then under him Mumbai won the Irani Cup after 27 years. Omkar Salvi does not have much experience as a player. He played only one match for Railways in the year 2005. He took only one wicket in his career but he is quite popular as a coach among the players. This year too, under his coaching, Mumbai is at third position in the elite group of Ranji Trophy. The team has scored 22 points in 5 matches. Salvi also has experience in IPL. He has also been the assistant bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders. Earlier, RCB had appointed Dinesh Karthik as its mentor and batting coach for IPL 2025. Karthik and Salvi have also worked together before in KKR.

It is understandable that India might stick to Ravindra Jadeja for his all-round abilities in the Perth Test, but former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has advised India head coach Gautam Gambhir not to drop R Ashwin from the playing eleven.
