Michael Clarke-led Australia dominated the 2015 ODI World Cup and lifted the trophy on home turf by defeating New Zealand by seven wickets in a one-sided final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Earlier, they defeated India by 95 runs in the second semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and shattered the defending champions’ dream of winning the tournament.
Australia won the toss and batted first and scored 328 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs with the help of brilliant innings of Steven Smith (105) and Finch (81). In reply, the Indian team could not pose any threat to the host team and in the absence of big individual innings and big partnerships, could score only 233 runs in 46.5 overs. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored the highest 65 runs. Steven Smith was declared the Man of the Match.
Steve Smith and Michael Clarke attended the press conference
There was excitement in the Australian camp after they secured their place in the final of the tournament. After the match, the captain and/or a member of the team is expected to interact with the media and answer their questions about the game and other things.
As soon as Australia won the match, captain Clarke and man of the match Steve Smith came together to share their thoughts with the media. BBC reporter Stephen Shemilt, who was sitting in the press conference, had a slip of tongue while asking a question.
Reporter’s tongue slipped, instead of asking about success he asked about sex life
The journalist wanted to ask Michael about the tremendous success he had with his team as the Australian captain. He said, “Michael, you’ve had great sex…oh sorry I mean you’ve had great success.” And before he could complete his question, the whole room erupted in laughter.
On hearing this, Steve Smith sitting next to him started laughing loudly hiding his face. Clarke was initially shocked and did not know how to react but he also started laughing along with everyone. He jokingly said- This question of yours was not for my wife.
