After sitting on the bench for the first four matches, Shami wreaked havoc on the batsmen in the remaining matches and took 24 wickets. During COVID-19, when people across the world were battling the pandemic, Shami distributed food packets and masks on National Highway 24. He set up food distribution centres in areas near his home to help the needy. This initiative brought relief and ensured safety to thousands of labourers and needy people.
Distribution of tricycles to handicapped people
Out of love for his only daughter, Shami distributed tricycles to differently-abled people in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, on the occasion of his daughter’s birthday in 2018. He said that this tradition is inspired by the habits of his ancestors. This step brought a huge change in the lives of those who were facing difficulty in walking. This initiative promoted their independence and mobility.
Construction of sports facilities in Amroha
Shami had a dream to build sports facilities in Amroha. He built four pitches for practice in his village. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved his initiative and allotted 1.09 hectares of land. This initiative has inspired the youth of the region towards sports and shaped their dreams.
