Former player Brian Lara believes that just investing more money in the West Indies cricket system will not be enough to improve their on-field performance. According to Brian Lara, it is very important for the players to perform even better to win the match. The former player is not at all happy with the performance of his team in the currently being played England vs West Indies match.

West Indies were all out for 121 runs on the first day of the first Test being played at Lord’s against England. Not only this, England scored 371 runs after losing all the wickets in their first innings. By the end of the second day’s play, West Indies have lost 6 wickets for 79 runs in their second innings. The team is still 171 runs behind England. Speaking on the BBC World Service Stumped Podcast, Brian Lara has blamed the West Indies Cricket Board.

Brian Lara said, ‘If you put 100 million or 200 million dollars in the bank account of West Indies, will it change their way of playing? I don’t think so. We are not using the talent we have properly. West Indies cricket has not taken any significant steps to attract sponsors. Not only this, they have not done any work on the important things that people need. All this is very important.’

Brian Lara made a special appeal to West Indies cricket

The former West Indies player further said, ‘We don’t have anyone coming from the gate side. I reached Lord’s on Wednesday at 7:30 am and people were waiting outside. I saw this when I was a kid and people used to wait for the gate to open at 5:30 am in Queen’s Park in Trinidad. Now this is not happening. Even if you reach there at 11:00 am, the stadium will still be empty.’

Talking about the first test, this is the last match of James Anderson’s cricketing career. England has so far put pressure on West Indies in this match and the hosts would definitely want to win it. England now has to take just four more wickets to win the first test. A total of three match test series is being played between these two teams.
