Sanjay Manjrekar posted a tweet, “No coach, Lalchand Rajput, Gary Kirsten and Rahul Dravid. Coaches were there when India won the World Cup in 1983, 2007, 2011 and 2024. It’s really about Indian cricket, not who the coach is. It’s time we stop thinking there is a direct connection between the two.”

When the Indian team led by Kapil Dev won the World Cup in 1983 by defeating the two-time defending champion West Indies, the team did not have a head coach at that time. Whereas, when Team India became the champion of the T20 World Cup in 2007, Lalchand Rajput was the director of the team, because Greg Chappell was removed 6 months ago after the poor performance in the ODI World Cup.

However, during the 2011 ODI World Cup, the head coach of the winning team was Gary Kirsten. This was the first time that Team India won the World Cup and a head coach was present with the team.
