Team India’s star cricketers Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer may be dropped from BCCI’s central contract due to skipping Ranji Trophy matches. Let us tell you that, Iyer was included in Grade B of Central Contract in March 2023, under which he gets Rs 3 crore annually. While Ishan Kishan was placed in Grade C earning Rs 1 crore annually.
According to media reports, BCCI will soon announce the new central contract list for players and both Kishan and Iyer may be left out of that list due to not playing domestic cricket. Kishan has been on a break for personal reasons after leaving the team midway through the South Africa tour due to mental fatigue. Whereas Iyer was recently dropped from the Test team for the last three Tests. However, BCCI has not given the reason why Shreyas Iyer was dropped.
A source quoted by Times of India said, “The selectors under the leadership of Ajit Agarkar have almost finalized the list of centrally contracted players for the 2023-24 season as well, which the BCCI will announce soon. Kishan and Iyer are likely to be left out of that list as both are not playing domestic cricket despite BCCI orders.”
The 29-year-old Iyer had informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that he was not available for selection due to back spasms. However, Nitin Patel, head of sports science and medicine at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, emailed the BCCI and the national selectors to say that Iyer is fully fit and can play the match.
Another source revealed that Iyer was ruled out of the last three Tests against England as a precaution and the email sent by Nitin Patel was after the second Test, but since then a back problem has troubled him Is.
