Mumbai Cricket Association has recently made a big announcement where everyone on the board has agreed that 100% salary increase will be provided to Mumbai players from the 2024-25 season. The decision was taken after the state association recommended that players’ BCCI earnings should be at par with domestic cricket.

This decision was approved in the Apex Council meeting of Mumbai Cricket Association i.e. MCA and now this will double the players’ earnings in the entire season. Let us tell you, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is paying the players in three slabs. Any player who plays 40 first-class matches earns Rs 60,000 a day. Players who have played 21-40 matches earn Rs 50,000 a day, while players who have played less than 20 matches earn Rs 40,000 a day.

For example, Mumbai opener Bhupen Lalwani had participated in all 10 matches for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and has earned Rs 17.2 lakh as match fee. However, if this rule had come earlier, Bhupen Lalwani would have earned Rs 34.4 lakh.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Mumbai Cricket Association President Amol Kale said, ‘We felt that players can earn more, especially those who play Ranji Trophy cricket. The red ball format is very important for us and Ranji Trophy holds a special place in everyone’s heart in Mumbai.

If Ranji Trophy fees are doubled or tripled, many people will be seen playing this tournament: Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that if the match fees of domestic cricket is increased, then many players can be seen participating more in domestic cricket.

Sunil Gavaskar said, ‘If the Ranji Trophy fees are doubled or tripled, then more and more players can be seen playing Ranji Trophy. He will be ready to play in the slab system. For every 10 first class matches you will get more. Therefore, I appeal to BCCI to keep an eye on this also.
