Mega auction takes place every 3 years in which teams get a chance to release players and buy their favorite players again.
How many players can teams retain in the IPL mega auction?
Teams can retain only three Indian-capped players, a maximum of two overseas and one uncapped Indian player. As per this retention policy, BCCI has suggested retaining 3 players and using the Right to Match card for one player for the IPL Auction 2025.
What is the RTM (Right To Match) card used in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction?
- Let us tell you that the teams playing IPL can retain players in two ways before the auction. If we give you an example, the first option the team has is to directly retain the players.
- The second option is Right to Match. Let us tell you how a team can use RTM.
- Under this rule of BCCI, any team can buy the player whom they had not retained.

- So what will happen in such a situation? In this situation, Mumbai Indians (MI) will play the RTM card and pay that much money to Chennai Super Kings for Rohit Sharma and include Rohit in their team.
Reports suggest that not all franchises are in favor of increasing the Right to Match card. Some teams want to retain 6-8 of their players, while some teams do not want this. In such a situation, if the retention list is increased then it will not make any sense. Therefore, the BCCI has said that there will be no changes in the IPL 2025 Retention Policy.
