On the completion of four years of MS Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket, Star Sports shared a video from the year 2021 on its official X handle, in which current Indian captain Rohit Sharma talks about Dhoni’s role in shaping his career.

Rohit Sharma reveals how Dhoni played a key role in shaping his career

Rohit became the second Indian captain after Dhoni to win the T20 World Cup title when India ended their ICC Trophy drought in the West Indies in June earlier this year.

In the video filmed during the T20 World Cup 2021, Rohit says-

“I made my World Cup debut under him (Dhoni), which was in 2007 and since then our journey has been very long, we have played a lot of cricket together. His ability to be with a young player and encourage him, no matter what the situation of the game is, no matter how the player is performing, he just tries to make sure that there is enough restraint around that player, the player doesn’t feel insecure, and I think that is a very important thing when a player comes into the team.”

“Even a player who has played a lot of matches, when he goes through a bad phase, you need someone who can come to you and pat your back and say ‘Hey there is nothing to worry about. You have all the ability, talent and everything, just need to go out there and enjoy the match. You need that kind of support and cooperation from your captain and that is what we all got when he was the captain.
