On this day i.e. February 19, 1999, an important test match was played between India and Pakistan at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. During this test match, Sachin Tendulkar was run out, after which a riot broke out in Eden Garden and a lot of controversy was also seen due to it.

There was no incident during the first three days of play of this Test match because the performance of the Indian team was very good in these three days and it seemed that it would easily win this Test. At one time, Pakistan team had lost six wickets for 26 runs, after which Moin Khan played a valuable inning of 70 runs for his team, due to which Pakistan scored 185 runs in its first innings.

In reply, India scored 223 runs in its first innings and took a lead of 38 runs over Pakistan. Opener S. Ramesh played a brilliant inning of 79 runs in the first innings. However, the Indian spectators were quite disappointed that Sachin Tendulkar was out without opening the account on the first ball of this match. He was bowled by Shoaib Akhtar. In Pakistan’s second innings, Saeed Anwar batted very well and played an incredible inning of 188* runs, due to which Pakistan made a total of 316 runs.

Mohammad Yusuf also contributed 56 runs. However, the Indian spectators who came to watch the match in the stadium got very angry when the Indian team came out to chase this target.
