After the 1996 World Cup, Sri Lanka also won the T20 World Cup in 2014.

Today, on 6th April, the Sri Lankan cricket team defeated the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2014 in the final match played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. It is noteworthy that between 2007 and 2012, Sri Lanka was successful in reaching the finals of the T20 World Cup along with the World Cup. But could not win on any occasion.

However, Sri Lanka settled the score of defeat in the final of World Cup 2011 by defeating India in a one-sided fashion by 6 wickets in the final of T20 World Cup 2014. Sri Lanka won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Lasith Malinga.

If we tell you about the match, while batting first, India lost the wicket of opener Ajinkya Rahane (3) in the very second over. However, after this Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made a partnership of 60 runs in 54 balls. After Rohit was out after scoring 29 runs in 26 balls, Yuvraj Singh came to bat at number 4. Yuvraj struggled to score runs and was caught by Thisara Perera off the bowling of Nuwan Kulasekara after scoring just 11 runs in 21 balls.

So after Yuvraj was out in the 19th over, MS Dhoni came to bat and he too could not show much magic. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 4 runs in 7 balls, but Virat Kohli played an inning of 77 runs in 58 balls, due to which India was able to score 130 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. Kohli was run out on the last ball of the innings.

After this, when Sri Lanka came to chase this target, India took the wickets of Kusal Perera (5) and T Dilshan (18) in the powerplay. Whereas Mahela Jayawardene (24) and Lahiru Thirimane (7) were out after getting a good start. But Kumar Sangakkara played an unbeaten inning of 52* runs in 35 balls and returned after winning the match for his team. Apart from this, Thisara Perera also remained unbeaten after scoring 23* runs.

After this victory, Sri Lanka also avenged its defeat against India in the World Cup 2011 final. So after winning the final, Sri Lankan veteran players Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene also said goodbye to T20 cricket.
