Rohit took 241 innings to achieve this feat in ODIs
Indian cricket team captain and world cricket’s Hitman, Rohit Sharma, had registered his name in the pages of history on this day. It is worth noting that on September 12, 2023, Rohit became the second fastest cricketer to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket.
Rohit did this feat last year against Sri Lanka. Rohit took 241 innings to reach the 10,000-run mark in ODI cricket, which is 18 innings less than the number of innings taken by Sachin to reach this figure.
It is worth noting that Sachin took 259 innings to reach the 10,000 mark in ODIs, while former Indian captain and run machine Virat Kohli is at number one with 205 innings. Apart from Sachin, Sourav Ganguly is at fourth place with 263 innings and MS Dhoni is at fifth place with 273 innings.
Rohit’s ODI career started late
It is worth noting that Rohit had a slow start to his ODI career almost a decade ago when he could not reach 2 thousand ODI runs even after playing 80 matches. However, when he was promoted as an opener in the year 2013, his cricket career changed completely.
In his first four years as an opener, Rohit scored 3153 runs in 66 innings, including 8 centuries. After this, Rohit scored 19 centuries in 70 innings played in the next four years. Apart from this, Rohit has scored three double centuries in ODI cricket, which proves how dangerous a batsman he is in the world.
So now Rohit will be seen playing in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting from September 19. It will be interesting to see how Rohit’s bat will perform in this series?
