PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has now realised that the Pakistan team does not have the people and data to select talented players due to which the national team is suffering.
After the poor performance in ODI World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024, it is clear that the level of Pakistan cricket team is declining. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan Cricket Board now needs “major surgery”.
What does surgery mean?
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has now realized that the Pakistan team does not have the people and data to select talented players, due to which the national team is suffering. This comment of Naqvi was criticized by Pakistan lost their first test against Bangladesh It came a day after.
Naqvi said, “The problem is that the selection committee does not have a group of players to select players from. I talked about surgery because we need to fix our problems. But when we look at how to solve them, we do not have any concrete data or more players to turn to for help. The whole system was messed up. The Champions Cup (Pakistan’s domestic tournament) will bring out the best talents and we will have records of many players.”
The mission is to find talented players from domestic tournaments
The PCB has appointed five mentors for the domestic Champions Cup starting in a few weeks which will be involved in five teams. Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik will work as mentors. Their job will be to identify talented players of the country and give them opportunities.
Naqvi said that the 150 players selected for the Champions Cup have been selected with the help of artificial intelligence. He said that the performance and record of the Champions Cup will help the selectors in making necessary changes in the senior team of Pakistan.
Bad players will be immediately removed from Pakistan team
Naqvi said, “We had many players whose records we did not have. This cup will strengthen domestic cricket, we will have a pool of 150 players, and then whatever surgery we need to do in the team, the selection committee will do it. People said ‘do it today, remove four-five players from the team and get rid of them’. But you cannot remove someone unless you have a better player to replace him”
