Today, on 15th July, the Pakistan Cricket Board has reduced the duration of the central contract of the players from 3 years to 1 year. However, they have not made any change in the salary of the players.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi took this decision in a meeting in Lahore in which other board members were also present. Not only this, limited overs team head coach Gary Kirsten and test team head coach Jason Gillespie, selectors Mohammad Yusuf and Asad Shafiq along with assistant coach Azhar Mahmood were also present in this meeting.

According to the Times of India, a Pakistan Cricket Board official confirmed that, ‘The central contract of the players has now been made for 12 months, although there has been no change in their salary. This big change has been made because of the fitness and behavior of the players and now strict steps will be taken regarding this every year.’

Let us tell you, the performance of the Pakistan team was very poor in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the team could not even secure its place in the Super 8. The team had to face defeat against America and India. Not only this, the performance of the team has seen a decline for quite some time.

Pakistan Cricket Board will take big steps regarding the fitness of players

Officials have also confirmed that the Pakistan Cricket Board will conduct fitness tests of all the players who are included in the central contract every year. Also, only those players will be included in the central contract and team who are completely fit.

The official said, ‘Players who want to participate in franchise league cricket will have to improve their fitness. A player will get NOC only when he shows his best performance for the team at the international level along with his fitness.’
