A new cricket stadium has recently been built in South Australia. The name of this stadium is Optus Stadium. Also, to attract tourists and fans to this stadium, South Australia’s Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti has offered to host a friendly IPL match.
After this decision, an attempt has been made to attract not only domestic fans but also Indian fans present outside the country to the stadium. This initiative of the Tourism Minister is being seen as part of a comprehensive strategy to attract more fans, especially from India.
So this announcement was made by Rita Saffioti in a program recently hosted by former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist regarding stadium tourism. It is worth noting that the area around Perth attracts Indian tourists a lot. Because of this, if any IPL match is organized in the stadium, then it can bring more financial benefits.
Indians are the main tourists of South Australia
Also, Indians have become a priority tourism market for South Australia for some time now. By the end of March 2024, around 34 thousand Indian tourists had visited here, which has benefited the local economy by about 128 million US dollars.
South Australia has seen India grow from its 11th to 7th largest tourism market since 2019, bolstering the growing Indian community of around 61,000 residents and 9,600 international students in South Australia.
On the other hand, the name of this initiative of the Tourism Minister of South Australia is “Drive the Dream” which reflects the new global success. Apart from this, Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo is also seen supporting this initiative.
