Match referee threw newspaper in front of me- Virat Kohli
The Australian media published this incident on the front page of the newspaper the next day. Virat Kohli was then called by the match referee Ranjan Madugalle. Kohli told the match referee that it was just a joke and he also pleaded not to ban him.
Recalling the incident, Virat Kohli said in an interview given to Wisden,
Yes, one thing I remember the most is when I was fed up with the Australian fans in Sydney and I just decided to show them the finger. The match referee called me to his room the next day and I was like, ‘What happened?’. He asked, ‘What happened on the boundary yesterday?’. I said, ‘Nothing, it was just some fun’. Then he threw a newspaper in front of me and there was a big picture of me on the front page and I said, ‘I am sorry, please don’t ban me.
Match referee Ranjan Madugalle understood that Virat is young and he made a mistake in his enthusiasm. That is why he did not take any strict action against Virat.
