PSL 2024: Ahead of the upcoming season of Pakistan Super League (PSL), Quetta Gladiators (Quetta Gladiators) has seen a major change in its leadership. Former Pakistan captain and veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed has recently resigned after captaining Quetta Gladiators in the last eight PSL seasons.

After which, now Quetta Gladiators have appointed South Africa’s stylish batsman Rilee Rossouw as their new captain before the upcoming PSL 2024. Meanwhile, Saud Shakeel will be the vice-captain of Rilee Rossouw in Quetta Gladiators.

The Gladiators had been considering a captaincy change for some time, and Rilee Rossouw and Saud Shakeel were the top contenders. Let us tell you, in the PSL draft in December last year, Sarfaraz Ahmed was officially named the captain for the ninth season. Due to which Sarfaraz participated with the captains of other five franchises during the unveiling of the PSL trophy in Lahore on the morning of 13 February.

Meanwhile, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Quetta Gladiators’ new head coach Shane Watson has been conveyed his opinion by the franchise and the new backroom staff has expressed its support in making the change in captaincy. Quetta Gladiators team owner Nadeem Omer said that Shane Watson was given the responsibility of identifying the next captain.

Riley Rossouw’s PSL record is excellent

Watson and his support staff discussed Saud Shakeel and Riley Rossouw, and gave him the green light to choose them as captain due to the South African star’s vast PSL experience. Although Rossouw has never captained in professional T20 cricket, he is the highest run-scorer overseas batsman in the history of PSL. He has scored a total of 1867 runs in PSL at a strike rate of 146.54.
