The BCCI has decided to divide the Ranji Trophy league stages into two windows this season. The first leg of five league games will be played from October 11 to November 13 and then resume on January 23.
Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Format Explained: After Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup, now Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season is going to start from October 11. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided that the tournament will be conducted in two phases. Additionally, white-ball tournaments like Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be held along with Ranji Trophy.
According to the new structure of BCCI, each team will play five matches in the first phase of the Ranji season till November 13. Then the tournaments for Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be put on hold, these tournaments will be held in T20 and 50 over formats respectively.
The second phase of the Ranji Trophy will then begin on January 23, comprising the knock-out stages, and the final is scheduled from February 26 to March 2. There was only a three-day gap between Ranji games but players complained about the busy schedule and the lack of rest. After which the interval between games has been increased from three days to four days for the 2024-25 season.

After several matches were affected due to inclement weather during winter last season, the BCCI has decided to split the Ranji Trophy league stages into two windows this season. The first leg of five league games will be played from October 11 to November 13 and then resume on January 23.
India’s oldest domestic tournament features 38 teams divided into five groups. There are four groups, Elite A, Elite B, Elite C and Elite D, with eight teams in each group. The other six teams have been placed in the plate group.
The Elite Group Knockouts will begin on February 8. The Plate Group will host a separate knockout tournament to decide its winner.
The finalists of the Plate Group will advance to the Elite Group in the next season. Similarly, the bottom two teams in the combined standings of the Elite Group will be relegated to the Plate Circuit next year. This year, Hyderabad and Meghalaya were promoted to the Elite Group, while Manipur and Goa were relegated to the Plate Group.
