Veteran Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma is set to feature in Delhi’s upcoming clash against Baroda in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Ahead of his return to the Indian team, Ishant has been focusing on red ball cricket and played for Delhi against Puducherry. However, he could not take advantage of the opportunity and the visiting team won by nine wickets.
After a break of almost a month, the 35-year-old is ready to make a comeback and may get a chance to replace Prince Yadav in the playing eleven. He will lead the fast bowling unit along with Navdeep Saini and Himanshu Chauhan. Meanwhile, Ishant’s return will strengthen Delhi’s bowling line-up, which is going through a bad phase. Delhi team is currently at sixth position in the Elite Group D points table.
However, their recent win over Uttarakhand should give them some confidence ahead of them in the upcoming fixtures. The team’s new captain Himmat Singh played a memorable inning of 194 runs in the last match, while Yash Dhull and Lakshya Thareja made important contributions in the first and second innings respectively. Saini, Hrithik Shaukeen and Himanshu Chauhan looked impressive in the bowling, which is another plus point for the team.
The cold and humid weather in Delhi is expected to help the fast bowlers and Ishant’s experience here will come in handy for the team as he is used to playing in such conditions. The fast bowler will be desperate to prove his worth and get back into the national team, which is already loaded with quality fast bowlers.
