Rashid Khan took five wickets in the second ODI against South Africa.
Afghanistan’s legendary leg spinner Rashid Khan celebrated his 26th birthday yesterday, i.e. 20 September. On his birthday, he did a feat which no bowler has been able to do in the 53-year history of ODI cricket. Afghanistan’s team was face to face against South Africa on Friday in the second match of the three-match ODI series. In this match, they registered a big win by 177 runs.
Rashid Khan played the most important role in Afghanistan’s victory. He sent not one or two but five African batsmen to the pavilion in this match. With this, Rashid Khan became the first bowler in the world to take a 5-wicket haul in ODIs on his birthday. Before him, two bowlers had taken 4 wickets each on their birthdays.
Before Rashid Khan, the record for the best performance on birthday in ODI cricket was in the name of South African fast bowler Vernon Philander. In 2007, he took four wickets for just 12 runs against Ireland. In 2010, Stuart Broad took four wickets for 44 runs against Australia.
