The PCB has removed Riaz and Razzaq from the selection committee, marking the beginning of the ‘surgery’ that chief Mohsin Naqvi had promised. The board released a statement that read (via Deccan Herald): “We have informed Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that they will no longer be required in the National Selection Committee. The PCB will provide further updates on the composition of the selection committee in due course.”
Meanwhile, Afridi spoke to reporters in London and said no player has got as many opportunities as Babar Azam as captain. As quoted by CricketPakistan.pk, the former chief selector said: “No captain has ever had so many chances. Usually, the captain is the first one to be dropped right after the World Cup.
We have also led the team, like me, Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq, but Babar has got the most opportunities. Let’s take a decisive step and support him wholeheartedly whatever he brings. To be honest, this kind of surgery is beyond my understanding.”
PCB has removed only Razzaq and Wahab Riaz for now, but can take many big decisions in the next few days. Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also held two important meetings, in which white-ball coach Gary Kirsten and red-ball coach Jason Gillespie were present. During this, there was a discussion about improving the team. Not only this, he also met more than two dozen former and current cricketers to bring about improvement in Pakistan cricket.
