Sri Lanka appointed Sanath Jayasuriya as the head coach of the team
Former opener Sanath Jayasuriya was appointed as the interim head coach of the Sri Lanka national team on Monday, July 08. Jayasuriya said on Monday that he was approached by the board to replace Chris Silverwood, who stepped down after the T20 World Cup in the USA.
Sanath Jayasuriya has previously served as the national team selector. He will now begin his tenure as coach after the end of the current Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 season. He is set to take charge of the team for the limited-overs series against India in July-August and the tour of England at the end of the month.
Sanath Jayasuriya has abundant international experience and his close association with the Sri Lanka cricket team will hold him in good stead. Jayasuriya has represented Sri Lanka 586 times in all three formats of the game, scoring 42 centuries and taking 440 wickets. He played his last international match in 2011. In such a situation, this series is no less than a challenge for Gautam Gambhir. The Sri Lankan team under Jayasuriya’s coaching will be very dangerous.
