Shah Khawar will now take charge till the PCB elections, which are scheduled to be held within a month.
There is turmoil in Pakistan cricket these days. Recently Zaka Ashraf had resigned from the post of head of PCB’s management committee. Today, big news is coming out from Pakistan Cricket that PCB has appointed its Election Commissioner Shah Khawar as its new interim chief on Wednesday 24 January.
PCB COO Salmar Naseer, directors and other staff welcomed Shah Khawar after assuming charge at the cricket board’s headquarters. Shah Khawar will now take charge till the PCB elections, which are scheduled to be held within a month.

Mr Shah Khawar, Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Election Commissioner of PCB, has assumed charge as Chairman PCB.

Shah Khawar’s statement after appointment
After his appointment, Shah Khawar issued a statement saying, ‘I would like to thank PCB Patron Mr. Anwar Ul Haq Kakkar for showing confidence in me. My primary responsibility will be to conduct the election of PCB Chairman in a free and transparent manner as soon as possible.
Let us tell you that in 2021, no PCB Chief has completed his tenure since Ehsan Mani. Rameez Raja served for 15 months (September 2021 – December 22), while Najam Sethi (December 2022 – June 2023) and Zaka Ashraf (July 2023 – January 2024) also served for less than a year.
A period of change is going on in Pakistan cricket after the ODI World Cup. Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy in all three formats. After which Shan Masood has been made the captain of Test and Shaheen Shah Afridi of T-20 team, but they have not got success. Under the leadership of Shan Masood, Pakistan suffered a 0-3 defeat in the Test series against Australia, while under the leadership of Shaheen, the team lost 1-4 in the T20 series against New Zealand.
