South Africa are scheduled to play a 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan, starting September 18 in Sharjah.
South Africa has announced its team for the upcoming series against Afghanistan and Ireland to be held in UAE. South Africa is to play a 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan which starts from 18 September in Sharjah. After this, the team has to play a two-match T20 and three-match ODI series against Ireland in Abu Dhabi from 27 September.
Jason Smith and Nqaba Peter have been included in South Africa’s ODI team for the first time. Nqaba Peter made his T20 debut for South Africa against West Indies in May this year. Not only this, Jason Smith also made his T20 debut for South Africa in August 2024. Peter took three wickets in two matches while Jason Smith scored 6 runs in one match.
Apart from these two players, Amdile Simelane has been included in the international team for the first time. This young player performed brilliantly in the recently concluded Zimbabwe Emerging tour of South Africa. Experienced fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is also now fully fit and he has also been included in all three teams. This experienced player could not take part in the three-match T20 series played against West Indies in August.
Head coach Rob Walter said, ‘We have decided to include some young players in the team whose performance has been excellent in the recent past. Our plan is to perform well in the 2027 ODI World Cup and for that we have to prepare the players from now on. This tour will be important for all the players and they will be seen performing well.’
