Sri Lanka was eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the group stage itself
After the poor performance of the Sri Lanka cricket team in the ongoing T20 World Cup, the team’s head coach Chris Silverwood has resigned from the post. Earlier, Sri Lanka’s performance in the World Cup 2023 was not very good, after which the former coach of the England cricket team has taken this big decision.
It is worth noting that Silverwood’s coaching career with the Sri Lankan cricket team started in a great way. Under the coaching of Silverwood, the team won the Asia Cup 2022 and also qualified for the 50-over Cricket World Cup.
Apart from this, Sri Lanka defeated Australia in the T20 series and Bangladesh in the Test series under the coaching of Silverwood. But now he has relieved himself of this responsibility in the Sri Lankan cricket team citing personal reasons.
A big statement from Chris Silverwood came out
So after leaving the post of head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Chris Silverwood said according to a statement issued by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC)- Being an international coach means being away from your family for long periods of time. After long conversations with my family and with a heavy heart, I feel it is time to return home and spend some quality time together.
I would like to thank the players, coaches, backroom staff and management of SLC for their support during my time in Sri Lanka. None of the success would have been possible without your support. It has been a true honour to be a part of Sri Lanka Cricket and I will take many fond memories with me.
Also, let us tell you that after the poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, Mahela Jayawardene also decided to leave the post of bowling consultant in the team. So now Chris Silverwood being relieved of his role is not a good sign for Sri Lanka cricket.
