Batting first in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, India did not have a good start. India lost the wickets of captain Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant in the second over. Then, Suryakumar Yadav returned to the pavilion in the 5th over. India’s score was 34/3 in 4.3 overs. After that, it was Rahul Dravid who came up with a “masterstroke” which gave India a chance to recover their faltering innings.
Let us tell you that, in that match, Akshar Patel was promoted in the batting order, but this was not India’s initial plan. In fact, Indian all-rounder Akshar Patel has revealed what really happened after India lost 3 wickets early.
Akshar Patel told why he was promoted in the final match
Speaking to Dinesh Karthik on Star Sports, Axar Patel said, “I thought I would bat down the order. But when we lost three wickets early, suddenly Rahul bhai told me, ‘Axar, pad up.’ I didn’t even get a chance to think about my batting, so it worked out for me.”
After that, Akshar went to bat with Virat Kohli, who was at the crease. After getting off to a fast start in the first over, he maintained a “slow-but-steady” approach in his batting. Akshar took the responsibility of playing some big shots to keep the scoreboard ticking. In that match, Akshar Patel scored 47 runs in 31 balls with 4 sixes and 1 four and missed out on scoring a half-century.
However, Axar Patel did exactly what he was sent for. He shared a 72-run partnership with Kohli to take India to 106/4 in 13.3 overs. India eventually scored 176/7 in 20 overs. In reply, South Africa’s innings ended at 169/8. India won the T20 World Cup after 17 years.
