Former New Zealand player Scott Styris believes that Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as India’s T20 captain for a very short period and the team management is planning to see Shubman Gill playing this important role after a few years.

Let us tell you, Scott Styris has been seen praising Shubman Gill since his initial international cricket days. Recently, Shubman Gill has been appointed the vice-captain of the Indian T20 team in place of Hardik Pandya. Not only this, Shubman Gill will also be seen in the role of vice-captain in the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Suryakumar Yadav will be seen captaining the Indian team in the T20 series against Sri Lanka, which is starting today i.e. July 27. A three-match T20 series will be played between India and Sri Lanka.

Scott Styris told India Today in an interview, ‘A vice-captain is someone who is learning about captaincy and also how to take a cricket team forward. I have no problem with Shubman Gill becoming the vice-captain. He has also captained in the Indian Premier League. There are many big names whose captaincy he has led, so I have no problem with this.’

Scott Styris further said, ‘This is a long term picture. Many senior players are retiring and Hardik Pandya has not been made the captain, so I think Gautam Gambhir has appointed Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the T20 team for a very short period, which will be for a maximum of one or two years. And after that Shubman Gill can be seen playing this important role.

A lot of positive growth has been seen in Shubman Gill’s game as well. He has performed very well for the Indian team and has won the hearts of all the fans. However, now it is very important for him to perform consistently well in all three formats and this is something he will have to learn as a captain as well. It is very important for him to improve his cricket further.

We didn’t really perform tonight. You can’t afford to do that in a tournament like this. Full credit to South Africa, they beat us tonight. This World Cup has been on our minds for a long time. We worked really hard in the off-season, fixing some things. We were really ready to come here. Felt like we left no stone unturned, we just didn’t perform well tonight. We found it very difficult, South Africa bowled very well, slowed down the pace and they made it difficult for us to take risks. After half the game, we thought it was 140-150, but South Africa batted so well and it felt like it was a completely different wicket.
