Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian team will end in June after the 2024 T20 World Cup. The legendary Indian player had a lot of success during his career with the Under-19 team or India A, due to which he was made the head coach of Team India in the year 2022, replacing Ravi Shastri.

But Dravid is yet to win an ICC trophy for the senior national team. It is time to end India’s long trophy drought. The T20 World Cup is starting on June 2. Before this, West Indies legend Brian Lara has made a big statement about Team India.

Brian Lara gave advice to Rahul Dravid

Ahead of the big tournament, former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara sent a clear message to Dravid and suggested him to plan for the final stages of the tournament. India have not won any trophy in an ICC tournament since 2013. The Windies legend said that no matter how many big names are in India’s team, it is important to focus on having a clear strategy on how to win the World Cup.

It does not matter that Team India has big star players: Brian Lara

When asked about some concerns about Team India ahead of the ICC tournament, Lara said, “Whether it is T20 or 50 overs in the last cup, I think they don’t have any final plan about how they will proceed. It doesn’t matter how many superstars you have. It all depends on how you win this World Cup, what are your plans and how you build your innings or attack policy. I hope Rahul Dravid brings his players together and makes a plan to win the T20 World Cup for India.”

Rahul Dravid also has last chance

This will be India’s second T20 World Cup under Dravid’s tenure as head coach. In 2022, the Rohit Sharma-led side reached the semi-finals but lost to champions England in the semi-finals. Overall, India has only one title in the history of this T20 tournament, which it won in the first year (2007) under MS Dhoni’s leadership. Since then, India reached the semi-finals twice in the next seven seasons and finished runners-up once.

Team India’s first match will be on 5 June

India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Then on June 9, there will be a thrilling match against arch-rivals Pakistan at the same ground. Apart from the above three, co-hosts USA and Canada are the other two members in Group A. India played their last international match in this format in January at home. After this, India will now play a warm-up match against Bangladesh in New York on June 1.
