The US Embassy in Nepal has once again refused to issue a visa to Sandeep Lamichhane.
Nepal will play its first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against the Netherlands in Dallas on June 4. The troubles do not seem to be decreasing for Nepal’s spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. While giving this information, the Nepal Cricket Association said that due to not getting the visa, the possibility of Lamichhane playing in the T20 World Cup is now negligible.
Lamichhane was recently acquitted in the rape case by the High Court. Despite this, last week the US refused to grant Lamichhane a US visa to participate in the tournament. Nepal Cricket Association Central Committee member Chumbi Lama said that all efforts to get Lamichhane a US visa have failed. Lamichhane is an important member of the Nepal cricket team, but he was not included in the team earlier due to the rape case.
Sandeep It is difficult for Lamichhane to play in the World Cup
Although the Nepal government is trying to get a visa for Sandeep Lamichhane, Lamichhane is unlikely to go to the US to participate in the T20 World Cup. According to ICC rules, any team can make changes to its team till May 25, but now any change in the team will have to be approved by the ICC Technical Committee.
The High Court had given relief to Lamichhane-
Nepal’s Patan High Court on May 15 gave its final verdict on the charge of sexual abuse against Lamichhane. The court said that Sandeep is innocent. The court canceled the sentence and fine given by the Kathmandu District Court. Actually, the Kathmandu District Court had earlier convicted Sandeep in a rape case and sentenced him to eight years in jail. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 5 lakh was also imposed.
Sandeep Lamichhane has participated in several leagues around the world –
Lamichhane has participated in many T20 leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League. Sandeep has played 51 ODIs and 52 T20 matches for Nepal so far. He has 112 wickets in 51 ODIs and 98 wickets in 52 T20 Internationals. Apart from this, Sandeep has played nine matches in the IPL and taken 13 wickets.
Overall, Sandeep has played a total of 144 T20 matches with leagues around the world. In this, he has taken 206 wickets. Sandeep has three wickets in first-class cricket and 158 wickets in List-A. Sandeep’s best performance in ODIs is 6 wickets for 11 runs. At the same time, Sandeep’s best performance in T20 International cricket is 5 wickets for 9 runs.
