T20 World Cup 2014 Recap: The fifth edition of the T20 World Cup was held in Bangladesh in March-April 2014. For the first time in the history of the tournament, 16 teams participated. 10 teams playing Tests had already qualified. T20 World Cup 2014 Recap: Rules of T20 World Cup 2014
New rules were introduced in the T20 World Cup 2014, which were different from the previous edition.
- The first round of the tournament was played between 8 teams, which were divided into two groups, each group had 4 teams. In the second round Super-10, the teams were divided into two groups, each group had five teams.
- The teams which were on top of their respective groups at the end of the group stage round went on to become part of the Super-10.
- During the group stage and Super-10 matches, the team that wins the match will get 2 points, if the match is cancelled then both teams will get 1 point each and in case of defeat, they will get zero points.
- In case of a tie (i.e. both teams scoring the same number of runs at the end of their innings), a Super Over would decide the winner.
- The use of DRS was also implemented in this edition.
T20 World Cup 2014 Recap: 16 teams were divided into two groups
Group A- Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Hong Kong
Group B- Ireland, Nepal, Netherlands, UAE

Bangladesh made it to the Super-10 round by topping the Group-A points table with two wins from 3 matches, 4 points and a net run rate of 1.466. Netherlands qualified from Group-B with two wins from 3 matches, 4 points and a net run rate of 1.109.
Let us tell you that England, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies were already part of the Super-10 round. In the Super-10 round, 10 teams were divided into two groups. Group-1 had Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand, England, Netherlands and Group-2 had India, West Indies, Pakistan, Australia, and Bangladesh.

T20 World Cup 2014 Recap: Status of semi-final matches
The first semi-final match of T20 World Cup 2014 was played between Sri Lanka and West Indies on 3 April in Dhaka. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 160 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Rain also disrupted the match, and West Indies got a DLS target of 108 runs in 13.5 overs to win. But West Indies could only score 80 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Sri Lanka won the match by 27 runs and made it to the final.
The second semi-final match was played between India and South Africa on 3 April in South Africa. South Africa batted first and scored 172 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. The final match of the T20 World Cup 2024 was played between India and Sri Lanka on 6 April at Dhaba. After losing the toss, India batted first and scored 130 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Virat Kohli played the highest innings of 77 runs in 58 balls for the team. Sri Lanka chased the target in just 17.5 overs and won by 6 wickets. Kumar Sangakkara won the Player of the Match title by playing an unbeaten innings of 52 runs in 35 balls.
Highest run and wicket taker in T20 World Cup 2014
Virat Kohli was the highest run scorer in the T20 World Cup 2014. He scored 319 runs in 6 matches at an average of 106.33 and a strike rate of 129.14. Virat Kohli also won the Player of the Tournament title.
South African bowler Imran Tahir was the highest wicket taker. Tahir took 12 wickets in 5 matches at an economy of 6.55.
