The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has categorically denied allegations that players and officials were seen drinking alcohol at a hotel party ahead of the team’s match against South Africa during the T20 World Cup 2024.

Let us tell you that these allegations were first published in the newspaper on July 7 and after that this news spread like wildfire on social media. Now the Sri Lankan Cricket Board has called these allegations completely false and said that this is going to harm the reputation of their team and management.

It is worth noting that the performance of the former champion Sri Lanka cricket team in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 was unforgettable. Sri Lanka was able to register only 1 win in the entire tournament, that too against the Netherlands. At the same time, the team finished its group at the third place after South Africa and Bangladesh.

So now some media reports have claimed that five main players of the team which includes three top order batsmen, an experienced fast bowler and a world class player were involved in a liquor party when the team’s crucial match was about to be played against South Africa.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board issued statement

On the other hand, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board has reacted immediately after these media reports surfaced. Regarding this, SLC wrote through a post from its official X account – The news reports are completely false, fabricated and baseless. SLC announced emphasizing that such false reporting unfairly maligns the image of Sri Lanka Cricket and its officials and its players.

SLC categorically and strongly refutes the contents of the article and confirms that no such incidents, as described, have occurred. Therefore, SLC states univocally that the news report is entirely false, fabricated, and baseless.
