After SA’s victory, there was a flood of memes on social media
The fourth match of the T20 World Cup 2024 was played between Sri Lanka and South Africa at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, where South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. Sri Lanka, who came to bat first, were bundled out for just 77 runs by the South African bowlers. Enrique Norkhia bowled brilliantly and took 4 wickets. In response, Africa achieved the target of 78 runs in 16.2 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. In this way, South Africa has started its World Cup campaign with a win.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. However, their decision backfired. The South African bowlers bowled brilliantly and took wickets at regular intervals, as a result of which the entire Sri Lankan team was all out for 77 runs in 19.1 overs.
The team had a very bad start and opener Pathum Nissanka got out cheaply. After this, all the batsmen got out one by one. The situation was such that no Sri Lankan batsman could touch the 20 run mark. Kusal Mendis scored the highest 19 runs.
Enrique Norkhia bowled brilliantly for South Africa. The right-arm fast bowler took 4 wickets for just 7 runs in his four-over spell. Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada also took 2-2 wickets. Otniel Bartman got 1 wicket.
Easy win for South Africa
In response, South Africa chased the target of 78 runs and achieved the target by losing four wickets in 16.2 overs. The team suffered initial setbacks. Opener Reeza Hendricks was out after scoring 4 runs and captain Aiden Markram was out after scoring 12 runs. But after this Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs handled the innings.
Both of them took the team’s score past 50. However, on a total score of 51, De Kock became Hasaranga’s victim after scoring 20 runs. After this, Stubbs also lost his wicket to Wanindu Hasaranga on a score of 58. But Heinrich Klaasen (19*) and David Miller (6*) did not let any further loss happen and led the team to victory. Wanindu Hasaranga took the maximum of 2 wickets for Sri Lanka.

Americans, we asked you to make the pitch for the T20 World Cup, not for the Test Championship #SAvSL

The hangover of the high scoring matches of IPL…the starting matches of the World Cup have come down!!!
What pitches have been made, South Africa struggling to chase down 78 runs, as it seems they are chasing 200 run target!!!#SLvSA #SAvSL #T20WorldCup— Devanshu Maheshwari (@beingdevanshu19) June 3, 2024
I don’t know, I think the Proteas have been complacent in their approach. Just cruising about, there was no need to reach the 14th over, with a target of 78. #SAvSL #T20WorldCup

It seems South Africa 🇿🇦 are using a different strategy this time around.
Collapsing & ‘choking’ in the first group match so they end up winning the World Cup without any further hiccups.
Great strategy!#SAvSL #SLvSA #CricketTwitter

What kind of pitch was this made by the USA?
T20 world cup was made into a test match…#t20worldcup #savsl— MD Adil Ansari (@End4N) June 3, 2024
Very Poor Pitch by New York. This is not an ideal pitch of t20 wc cricket.
Anyway better luck next time👍#SAvSL #T20WorldCup2024— Hitartha Bairagi (@BairagiHitartha) June 3, 2024
