Court of Appeal bans arrest of Upul Tharanga upon his return to Sri Lanka

(Photo by Clive Rose/Getty Images) The Court of Appeal has issued an order today i.e. on 16th October in which former Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Tharanga has been restrained from being arrested upon returning to the country. Let us tell you that Upul Tharanga is also the chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee. The appeal has been made in response to an order issued by the Matale High Court. On October 8, the Matale High Court had issued a warrant for the arrest of Upul Tharanga after he did not appear in court as a witness in the match-fixing case. The court was informed that the arrest warrant against Upul Tharanga was issued while he was in the US and participating in a franchise league cricket tournament. The Court of Appeal comprised a two-judge bench of Justices MTM Laffer and P. Kumararatnam and passed the order as per a writ petition which was filed by Upul Tharanga himself. A three-match T20 series is currently being played between Sri Lanka and West Indies. Let us tell you that the Sri Lankan team is currently playing a three-match T20 series against the West Indies. All the players of Sri Lanka performed strongly in this. Now the third and final T20 between these two teams will be played on October 17. Whichever team wins this final match will win the series. After this, a three-match ODI series will be played between these two teams, which will start from October 20.
