Youssef Beroun fled to the US to avoid investigation Also, bringing Beroun to justice was far from a straightforward process, as he fled to the United States via Dubai after the incident. The United States-United Kingdom extradition treaty was invoked to bring him before Southwark Crown Court, with the help of United States Marshals and British embassy officials in Washington. After extradition, Beroun pleaded guilty on June 14 this year. But Atkinson’s family was still waiting for the punishment of the culprit. But now after nearly 6 weeks of hearing the case, the culprit has been sentenced to eight and a half years.
