India desperately needed a win in this match. Batting first, India lost 5 wickets for just 17 runs. Zimbabwe’s bowlers wreaked havoc on a pitch that was favorable to fast bowlers. Kapil Dev, who came to bat at number six, played cautiously in the beginning. Roger Binny fully supported Kapil and shared a 60-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Haryana Hurricane showed his strength alone in that match. Kapil Dev remained unbeaten in the end by scoring 175 runs in 138 balls.
