He recovered without surgery and was included in the 2019 ODI World Cup squad, but the injury resurfaced later that year and he had to undergo surgery that year. He later returned to the field in 2021, but was included in the T20 World Cup squad only as a batsman, which cost the Indian team dearly. More recently, Hardik suffered an ankle injury during India’s fourth game in the ODI World Cup last year, which kept him away from cricket for a long time. He then returned as captain in IPL 2024 but his performance this season was very poor.
