Hathurusinghe has said that he often switches off the TV whenever he watches BPL. He also says that there is a huge shortage of local talent in the batting and bowling departments in the tournament. Already settled domestic players keep making headlines from time to time, which is not helping the uncapped players. Chandika Hathurusinghe gave a big statement Let us tell you that Hathurusinghe, quoting ESPN Cricinfo regarding Bangladesh Premier League, said – We (Bangladesh) do not have the right tournament. It sounds a bit strange, but sometimes I turn off the TV when I’m watching the Bangladesh Premier League. Some players are not even of the (required) class. I have a big problem with the current system. ICC needs to take action in this. There should be some rules. A player is playing one tournament and then he is playing another tournament. It has become like a circus. Players will talk about opportunities, but that is not correct. People will lose interest, I have also lost interest. Hathurusinghe further said – I have a way that we have a tournament before BPL, but in this tournament some of the best players do not play, because the franchises do not want this, they do what they have to do. Then how can you expect that Bangladesh will not lose to other teams. I am fighting an uphill battle right now.
