The left-handed batsman scored a brilliant 141 off 261 balls in the ongoing first Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. He took charge of the Pakistani innings from here and managed to complete his century on the second day before being dismissed by Mehdi Hasan Miraz. His batting average is currently higher than legends like Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Virat Kohli, who are considered four of the best players in modern cricket. In the list of all-time best averages of batsmen (after playing a minimum of 20 innings), Shakeel is second just after the great Australian batsman Donald Bradman. Shakeel completed 1,000 Test runs during his innings, equalling Saeed Ahmed’s record of becoming the joint-fastest Pakistan batsman to reach the milestone.
